SnapSplit ("we", "us") is a receipt-scanning bill-splitting service. We collect the minimum we need to make the product work, and your receipts are private to your group.
1. What we collect
Account: email, display name, optional phone number for SMS reminders. Content: receipts you scan, items you tag, group memberships, and settle-up records. In-app usage: anonymized product event counts (for example, 'receipt scanned') used to fix bugs and improve features.
2. How we use it
To run the app, sync your splits across devices, send the reminders you ask for, and improve features. We never sell your data. We never use receipt contents to train third-party models.
3. Cookies and tracking on snapsplit.ca
This website does not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Hotjar, Mixpanel, PostHog, or any third-party advertising or analytics tracker. We do not embed social media trackers. The only browser storage we always use is: (a) a small 'cookie consent' preference saved to localStorage so we don't show the notice again, and (b) a sign-in session cookie set by our auth provider if you log into a SnapSplit account from the web. If you tap 'Accept analytics' on the cookie banner, we additionally record anonymous product events on our own Supabase database, such as which bank tile you tapped on a /pay link and whether the tap opened your bank's app or fell back to its website. These events include the event name, a small set of properties (bank key, platform), and the page path — never your name, email, e-Transfer amount, cookies, IP, or device identifiers. Tap 'Reject analytics' to opt out; you can clear the preference from your browser at any time to be asked again. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address solely to serve the font file. No cross-site tracking happens on this website.
4. Receipt scanning (Anthropic Claude)
When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for text extraction (OCR and line-item parsing). Anthropic processes the image to return structured text and does not use it to train models. The image and extracted data are then stored encrypted at rest in our database and are visible only to members of the group you posted it to. You can delete a receipt at any time. Deletion is permanent within 30 days.
5. Hosting, storage, and auth (Supabase)
Account data, group data, receipts, and extracted items are stored in Supabase (Postgres database, object storage, and authentication). Supabase is our hosting and infrastructure provider.
6. Subscriptions (RevenueCat + App Store / Google Play)
Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, with RevenueCat used to validate receipts and manage entitlements. SnapSplit never sees or stores your payment card. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat receive the data they need to process and validate the purchase.
7. Location on the Travel Map (OpenStreetMap Nominatim)
If you enable the Travel Map, SnapSplit reads the merchant address printed on your receipt and looks it up using OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service to place a pin on the map. We do not track your device location. We send the printed address to Nominatim solely to convert it to a latitude / longitude.
8. Push notifications
We send push notifications (for example, reminders or settle-up confirmations) via Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. These services receive a device token and the notification payload to deliver the message.
9. Payments and money movement
SnapSplit does not move money. Settle-ups happen through Interac e-Transfer or another method you choose. We do not see or store your bank credentials.
10. Sharing
We share data only with the processors listed above (Anthropic, Supabase, RevenueCat, Apple, Google, OpenStreetMap Nominatim), plus authorities if compelled by valid legal process. We never sell your data.
11. Your rights
Access, export, correct, or delete your data at any time. Email privacy@snapsplit.ca and we'll respond within 14 days. EU and UK residents: GDPR data subject rights apply. California residents: CCPA rights apply.
12. Children
SnapSplit is intended for users 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
13. Changes
We'll notify you in-app at least 14 days before material changes take effect.
